An extremely rare offering in this part of the Herefordshire / Worcestershire border land where long term family ownership traditionally produces few sales in this quiet and peaceful part of the country. The ability to generate tax free timber income with all the necessary commercial ingredients, combined with the lovely location, is a compelling offering whilst also being convenient to the Midlands.
The woodland is split into two main sections separated by a
reasonably well-maintained un-surfaced county road which is
also a bridleway. The woodland is situated on a generally level
site which is ideal for ease of management.
xx
Soils are on the heavier side but nonetheless are highly fertile
and suitable for nearly all commercial tree species grown in this
part of the UK.
xx
The southern larger section is stocked with a mixture of mature
conifers including larch, Norway spruce, Sitka spruce, and
Douglas fir as well as similar aged broadleaves including ash,
beech and oak.
xx
This part of the wood is ready for clearing and replanting with
species desirable to the new owner. In our view the necessary
felling licence could be negotiated to contain a replanting mix to
include a good proportion of non-native conifers for commercial
reasons.
xx
The northern smaller section of the wood is mainly stocked with
younger Norway spruce that are still in their thinning phase. As
such this part of the wood could be managed or preserved for
future felling income.
xx
Access to both sections of the wood is excellent and directly off
the council roads. The letters A on the sale plan indicate the
various points of access.
xx
A section of the wood known as Birchy Copse is classified as a
Plantation on a Site of Ancient Woodland (PAWS). Woodlands so
classified are often given enhanced grant treatment in exchange
for plans to restore the woodland to one of native character.
xx
Currently a Countryside Stewardship Scheme is available for this
purpose and offers quite generous grants to manage the woods
for a more biodiverse purpose.
