The Pigeon House previously formed part of the Muntham Court Estate. The manor of Muntham can be traced back to 1066 and a house was first believed to have been built upon the site of Muntham Court in 1371. A substantial house was re-built in 1741 and sold to the then Viscount Montague in 1743. The house was further enlarged in 1789 and when sold in 1835 the estate comprised approximately 1,860 acres. The Estate was purchased in 1850 to the then Dowager Marchioness of Bath and in 1958 the Estate was split up and sold off with the main house, Muntham Court, being demolished in 1961. The Pigeon House was built, as the name suggests, for breeding pigeons and/or doves providing a constant food source throughout the year for the estate. Situated within the original grounds and woodland area of the house, The Pigeon House retains the benefit of being situated in a fine rural and secluded area. The Pigeon House is situated in an attractive yet accessible rural location on the South Downs looking towards Cissbury Ring and is accessed along a partly shared private drive of approximately 0.25 of a mile leading from the A24. The A24 to the South gives access to Worthing with its extensive range of shops and facilities as well as a mainline railway station, all within approximately 5 miles.
