Haycroft Copse is located a short distance from the village of Nettlebed in pastoral Oxfordshire and forms part of a larger Ancient Woodland known as Groveridge Wood. It is accessed along a track via a locked gate.  

Situated over level flint and chalk soils, the mature canopy to the north and western sides of the wood largely consists of lofty beech, complemented with oak, ash, cherry and birch. Within the shrub layer you will find groves of holly, hazel coppice, hawthorn, and naturally regenerating beech; this species is recognised for its ability to re-establish in shaded areas and under the canopy of larger trees. 

The southeast area contains a lovely stand of western red cedar where the current owner has enjoyed den building with the family.  This area could also be utilised by a new owner to practice bushcraft techniques, as the conifer provides canopy cover throughout the seasons, ideal for sheltering from the elements. Come warmer times of the year, the ground layer is adorned with bluebells, foxglove, dog’s mercury, bracken, honeysuckle and bountiful blackberry. 

There are a number of spots within Haycroft Copse that would make great camping locations.  Someone seeking to undertake some light management work could make use of the open spaces to tow and site a mobile sawmill. Fringing the southeastern and northeastern boundaries are rides where wildlife have been known to bask in the sunshine.  There are some delightful rural views looking out from both the northern and eastern boundaries.

Woodland creatures seen in and around the tree stems include deer (muntjac, fallow and roe), badger, hare, fox and wood mouse. Owl, buzzard, skylark, green woodpecker and countless harmonious songsters make up the feathered population.
