Soil Type
We understand from the Ministry of Agriculture Land Classification Provisional Edition the soil is Wisbech which is described as coarse silty calcareous alluvial gley soils developed in stoneless marine alluvium. Topsoils are silt loam or fine sandy silt loam, and sub soils are greyish mottled calcareous silt loam, fine sandy silt loam or fine sandy loam which become laminated with depth. Cropping is very diverse and includes sugar beet, potatoes, beans, peas, brassicas, and cereals. High value crops including onions, celery, lettuce, and flower bulbs can all be grown too.
