The actual Soil type is further classified by the Soil Survey of England and Wales as being part of the Swaffham Prior Association of Soils, which is described as being a calcareous fine loamy soils lying over chalk rubble with some deep non-calcareous loamy soils in places. The land is capable is growing cereals, sugar beet and potatoes in its best parts.
